Guardianships.

Guardianships are court proceedings made necessary when an individual needs financial or physical protection due to physical or mental incapacity, or due to being a minor.  Cook & Bartlett represents petitioners, guardians, and the persons subject to a guardianship, called the "ward."

A Durable Power of Attorney is an estate planning document used to avoid the time and expense of a guardianship, which is subject to court oversight.  Not only do we assist clients with drafting Powers of Attorney, we also represent and advise the Attorney-in-Fact under such documents when they care for the incapacitated person.
